Hello Hurricane Switchfoot

Hello Hurricane by Switchfoot

Artist: Switchfoot
Album: Hello Hurricane
Song: Hello Hurricane

Switchfoot is an American Christian rock band from San Diego. Switchfoot was solely marketed to the Christian music scene until Switchfoot gained mainstream fame after four of their songs was used for the movie A Walk to Remember. The songs “Only Hope”, “You”, “Learning to Breathe” and “Dare You to Move” were used. Soon after they signed with Columbia Records and came out with the album “Beautiful Letdown” which went double platinum selling over 2.6 million copies.

The name Switchfoot comes from a surfing term. “We all love to surf and have been surfing all our lives so to us, the name made sense. To switch your feet means to take a new stance facing the opposite direction. It’s about change and movement, a different way of approaching life and music”

The Album Hello Hurricane was released in 2009.

Hello Hurricane: Thoughts

Honestly, the song “Hello Hurricane” by Switchfoot isn’t my favorite song of the album. It’s not my favorite style of music either. However, I really liked the Hello Hurricane lyrics. It’s nothing spectacular or super poetic, but the message is very simple. The hurricanes may come, but it’s not enough to topple me. It’s not enough to silence my love. I already counted everything as loss, I’ve counted up the costs and built my life from the ground up.

Hello Hurricane by SwitchfootI find the heart behind this song to be so true. Life is not easy. Temptation is ever bearing down. There has been many times I wanted to throw in the towel. But this cry is something I can relate with, a cry I almost have to utter out loud to muster up my own faith and courage each time.

Matt 7:24-25 – “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”

Under Fire Lyrics

I’ve been watching the skies
They’ve been turning blood red
Not a doubt in my mind anymore
There’s a storm up ahead

Hello hurricane
You’re not enough
Hello hurricane
You can’t silence my love
I’ve got doors and windows
Boarded up
All your dead end fury is
Not enough
You can’t silence my love, my love

Every thing I have I count as loss
Everything I have is stripped away
Before I started building
I counted up these costs
There’s nothing left for you to take away

Hello hurricane
You’re not enough
Hello hurricane
You can’t silence my love
I’ve got doors and windows
Boarded up
All your dead end fury is
Not enough
You can’t silence my love
Yeah my love

I’m on fire fighting for control
I’m a fighter fighting for my soul
Everything inside of me surrenders
You can’t silence my love
You can’t silence my love

Hello hurricane
You’re not enough
Hello hurricane
You can’t silence my love
I’ve got doors and windows
Boarded up
All your dead end fury is
Not enough
You can’t silence my love

Yeah I said hello hurricane
